Dairy Today
Another assignment is bringing me to Pentagram....this time for magazines

We are producing a magazine about bicycling, and somehow my concept has brought me to...headshots of bicycles. interpreting bicycles as people, inspired by the redesign of "Dairy Today" magazine, which Pentagram did.
let me share
David Mandel had brought it to my attention a few quarters back. I think it is pretty neat. Doesn't Bessie look nice :)

4x100 glory
so I decided to stay up way too late last night, and procrastinate in my homework, and watch the US 4x100 relay win the men's relay against the French. The best part - the French were being French and were planning on "smacking" the Americans....they were even talking shit. You should have seen how dumbfounded they looked when they were out-touched at the very end!Yea US swimming....
What I didn't realize is that he is not the only Olympiad who swam at UofM...there is another Olympiad who is also a Wolverine same time as Phelps....these boys are so young - Peter VanderKaay.

Arabic Type
I also think that Arabic is really really beautiful...
was reading Tim's Print Magazine this month, and came across the artist, Mouneer El Shaarani...I was super impressed by the versatility of the type itself and how artists can really manipulate it to create beautiful images.

John Cage
Hank and I talked about this guy after class on Sunday. He was a composer, but I believe that his compositions were more theoretical than actual...or metaphysical as Hank would call them. One in particular 4'33" - is a piece in three pieces, of total silence. It forces the composer, the "players" and the audience to really listen to themselves and each other.
It was interesting watching this performance on Youtube. After each part, the audience would be in an uproar of coughing, as though everyone needed to cough at once at the one moment that the conductors baton was no longer in the air. Why? why cough? why sneeze? it is proof that we cannot sit still anymore...even when we are placing ourselves in that particular state?
John Cage also was an author, but unfortunately Google book reader has garbled most of his literature...i hate that...when pieces of the books are missing because Google doesnt want you to be able to read them all in their entireties!!
I do believe an attempt at a new language was at stake here.
